Some sources say home delivery is safer than shopping excursions. If you opt for this method, there are several options available in and around Back Bay, including wine and beer, which are now permitted delivery to home. Most of these have a “Leave at My Door” feature to socially distance yourself from the delivery person. Do plan ahead, though – extra time will be required and articles may not be available.
Eater.com provides an updated Boston-area grocery guide for safe shopping, grocery delivery services, meal kits, senior hours at stores, and other intel for cooking at home during the pandemic. For those of you who use Facebook, check out the public group: Boston Area Groceries & Essentials Updates. They post a lot of tips on which stores are delivering, how long it takes, and alternative resources and articles posted for local farms (thanks to NABB member, Rachel Whitty Haj, for providing this and other information on this site!).
Finally, please remember that cardboard may hold the virus for up to 24 hours, so exercise proper hand disinfectant procedures immediately after contact and dispose of the packaging. For more details, see this New England Journal of Medicine study on the stability of the virus on various services.

Major Grocery Chains & Delivery Services
The delivery services listed in this section are all over-scheduled, so when you’re ready to select a delivery time you’ll likely find there is nothing available. A little patience is required here: leave your online shopping cart filled while checking frequently for a time to free up (Peapod is a little different: reserve your delivery time and then fill your cart). It may take a few days or even weeks but it will happen. If it does, book quickly because it can disappear even during the process. Checking early morning or late at night often improves the odds.
